Dispelling a few dieting myths

  • Let’s start with the word diet which has various connotations, it actually originates from a Greek word meaning way of living, way of life.
  • Calorie counting does NOT work.
  • Although exercise plays an important part in maintaining health.  In actual fact 95% of your body shape is down to what you eat.
  • Cutting fats out of your diet is not going to make you healthier or slimmer. There has been so much misinformation over recent years about cutting out the healthy fats from our food intake and I believe this is one of the reasons for the obesity crisis facing us today.
  • Swapping sweeteners for sugar is NOT the way to go. Artificial sweeteners like aspartame are highly toxic to the system and has been linked to make serious health condition.  Some sweeteners are 200 times sweeter than sugar!
  • Diets do not work, in fact 95% of diets fail.
  • Being obese is 7 times more lethal than smoking
  • The chemicals pumped into processed food are toxic to your body, the artificial flavourings, preservatives, colourings etc., disrupt our hormones and have no nutritional content. In fact your body spends vital energy trying to remove them from your body.
  • What drives us to eat are feelings. Many of us eat for emotional reasons, to change our state. Until the underlying reasons are addressed we will struggle to regain control of our eating habits.
  • We may think we are hungry but this can actually be because we are dehydrated and need some good quality water. If we are eating unhealthy processed foods those hunger signals can be a sign we are malnourished and our body is craving vital nutrients. It could also be because we are feeling empty inside emotionally.
